You will find a highlighter on everyone’s desk as it is a staple. It helps you to make notes, to emphasize the important information and to give directions to your colleagues. There are different types of highlighters and Lyreco helps you to choose the one you need.
At first, there are two types of highlighter you can chose from: gel highlighter and the pencil highlighter. A gel highlighter marks paper with gel instead of ink, is more resistant, but less precise. A pencil highlighter is will not bleed through paper and does not require drying time, but you might need several strokes to correctly highlight a full line of text.
Then, you may consider the tip of your highlighter. The most common tip is the chisel tip. It allows you to cover a maximum of text in one stroke.
Finally, you should consider the drying time. If you want to be able to highlight quickly, without waiting for the gel or ink to be dry before turning a page, you need a fast dry ink.
You probably already noticed while using your highlighter that it often shows through paper, soak through the page and even stain the other side. This phenomenon, called bleeding, most likely happens when your paper is very thin. In order to avoid it, you can either order an highlighter that deposits less ink and that is formulated to not bleed, or you can chose to print on an higher quality paper .
Sometimes, highlighting a text can cause it to smear, even if the text is completely dry. Please note that gel pen ink, fountain pen ink and inkjet printing react the most to highlighter. (You can refer to your toner or cartridge to know which type of ink you use.)Smearing depends on the formula of the pen, the highlighter and the paper you use. If you do not want to ruin your whole piece of writing, make sure you always test your highlighter on a specific ink. Do not highlight a large portion of text straight away. If you need to change your pen now, you can find it easily on Lyreco’s website and get it delivered by tomorrow.
